New Feature Announcement: Master Your Email Delivery with the Mail Delivery Center

SpamExperts: An In-Depth Overview and Guide

SpamExperts is a robust email filtering service that helps protect your inbox from spam, viruses, and other email-based threats. This guide will provide an in-depth overview of SpamExperts and how to use it with your WebGee Hosting account.

Accessing SpamExperts

To access SpamExperts, log into your cPanel account and navigate to the 'Email' section. From there, click on 'SpamExperts'. You'll see a list of domains associated with your cPanel account. Click 'Login' next to the domain you wish to configure with SpamExperts.

Please note that SpamExperts is only available when you use WebGee Hosting for your email.

Configuring Your Domain

To ensure SpamExperts are filtering your domain's email, your MX records should point to WebGee's MX servers. This is necessary regardless of where your domain is registered or where you manage your DNS. By default, new domains purchased from WebGee are configured with the correct settings.

WebGee's mail servers are:

mx1.spamfiltering.io
mx2.spamfiltering.io

These servers pass all inbound email to our SpamExperts cluster, where it is scanned before being passed on to your cPanel server. The messages are then routed into your mailboxes.

Customizing SpamExperts Settings

Every cPanel account can customize SpamExperts settings to suit specific requirements. However, SpamExperts is designed to work 'out of the box'; in most cases, no additional configuration is required within SpamExperts itself.

If all your services (Domain, Hosting, Email) are with WebGee Hosting, then SpamExperts should work for you with no additional configuration.

How SpamExperts Works

SpamExperts uses several techniques to determine if an incoming message is safe:

  • Greylisting: This technique presents the sending mail server with a special test that most spam servers will fail. More information on Greylisting is available in this SolarWinds article.
  • Real-time black lists (RBLs): SpamExperts checks publicly available blacklists of known spammy servers.
  • Content analysis: SpamExperts inspects the contents of the email messages, including attachments, to determine if the message is spam.
  • SPF and DKIM testing: SPF and DKIM are advanced opt-in techniques many mail servers use to authenticate outgoing email. SPF relies on the DNS system to identify which mail servers are authorized to send email. DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) uses cryptographic techniques to "sign" outgoing mail.

By leveraging SpamExperts, you can significantly reduce the spam and unwanted emails that reach your inbox, enhancing your email experience.
