How to use SVGs in WordPress

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is an XML-based vector image format that offers several benefits over traditional graphics formats like JPG or PNG. SVGs are scalable, meaning they can be resized without loss in quality or pixelation. Additionally, SVG images, especially for logos and simple graphics, can be smaller in file size, leading to quicker website load times.

However, WordPress doesn't support SVG format images out of the box. Fortunately, there's a third-party plugin, Safe-SVG, that enables you to upload and work with SVG files through the WordPress Media Library.

Steps to Enable SVGs in WordPress

  1. Log in to WordPress: You need to be logged in to WordPress as an Administrator, or have sufficient privileges to install a plugin.
  2. Navigate to Add New Plugin: From the WordPress dashboard, select 'Plugins' > 'Add New'. Alternatively, from the 'Plugins' screen, click the 'Add New' button.
  3. Search for Safe SVG: Start typing 'safe SVG' into the search box, and the correct plugin should show up in the results.

  4. Install the Plugin: Click the 'Install Now' button.

  5. Activate the Plugin: Once the plugin has installed, click the 'Activate' button.

No further configuration is required. You'll now be able to upload and work with SVG files through the WordPress Media Library.
